I have been trying to transfer my music from my ipod classic to pc for about a day now. Some files move at a normal pace, however occasionally certain files slow the progress dramatically. Some for only 10 minutes or so, others take hours or seem to never transfer. I do not necessarily care about getting every file off of my old ipod, i am just trying to recover as much music as possible. is there any way to skip these problem files or find out which files are delaying this process and delete them? any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
As long as you don’t receive an error or a crash or a prolonged message in the lower left corner, then the program should still be working, and I would let Sharepod keep running. Or, you could press the Cancel button, and then restart the transfer anytime. Sharepod can detect what tracks are already in iTunes, so it will just pick up where it left off and only transfer tracks that are on your device but not in iTunes yet.
As for what is a normal amount of time it takes to transfer, it depends on several factors including how many tracks are on your device. Your computer’s RAM (memory), processor speed, and hard drive type will also have an effect on how fast the transfer will perform
Sharepod use AppleScripts for the import, and sometimes with several thousands of tracks, the performance can get a little slower. AppleScripts are the safest method to help ensure that your iTunes Library is not affected. While there are some faster methods to do the import, those can put your library more at risk.
If you think the transfer is stuck, just look in the lower left corner and check whether you see the same message about copying a track or rebuilding a playlist for an extended period of time.
